We have been really pleased with the number of people who have attended our information events.
These events are organised so we can update local people on our progress and, crucially, to provide opportunities for interested parties to give feedback and comments.
The feedback for the Project has been very positive to date, with the majority of respondents (97% of those attending the October 2016 events) saying they have no concerns about the possibility of the new mine being constructed. Most people (97%) also thought that the Project would offer exciting prospects for the local community and agreed that it would bring both jobs and growth to the local area. 94% of the respondents agreed that the works to date have had minimal impacts on their lives and that they did feel that steps were being taken to minimise any negative impacts on them. 95% were also satisfied that they knew what was going to happen next with the Project.
Some comments received via feedback forms from the October 2016 public events:
Exciting plans for local area
Everything was answered by the staff I spoke to. Exciting times ahead for West Cumbria
Concerned about impact on A595 by extra traffic
Very informative and interesting. Very impressed. Optimistic about the future for the people and the area
I would like to see the construction and digging/boring out of the drift. I am very much interested in mining and think it’s fantastic we can now continue coal mining in Whitehaven.
A hope that future/modern developments will perpetuate heritage of mining in West Cumbria, eg Haig Museum and WCM visitor centre
