Woodhouse Colliery Planning Application
West Cumbria Mining is delighted with the decision of the Secretary of State to formally approve the Woodhouse Colliery planning application.
West Cumbria Mining was notified by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities, on 10th August 2022, that further time was required for Planning Ministers to consider the Planning Inspector’s report and that a decision would be issued on or before the 8th November 2022.
West Cumbria Mining was advised by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities that officials were not yet in a position to complete their considerations prior to providing advice to Ministers, therefore Ministers would not be in a position to reach a decision by the revised 17th August deadline, following the previous extension from the original deadline of 7th July.

The West Cumbria Mining team would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have supported the Woodhouse Colliery project in the past, throughout the recent public inquiry and moving forwards.
West Cumbria Mining (WCM) looks forward to explaining its plans for the world’s first ‘net-zero’ underground coal mine at the forthcoming public inquiry, which is scheduled to commence on 7th September 2021 and to last for four weeks.
WCM has been approached by many of the local community, frustrated by news reports that ‘local’ people do not want the mine to go ahead.
