West Cumbria Mining hosts visit from Cumberland Geological Society

WCM’s Project Geologist, Dennis Rowland, held a morning session with the Cumberland Geological Society recently, as part of a Society day trip introducing ‘Coal and Iron in West Cumbria.’

The aim of the session was to provide an overview of the geology and mining history of the coalfield and an update on the progress of the WCM project which is aiming to mine metallurgical coal from seams off the coast of St Bees Head.

West Cumbria Mining Team

West Cumbria Mining is led by Mark Kirkbride who is a former underground coal mining engineer, with over 20 years’ experience in managing mining and civil projects.  He heads up a team of geologists, mining engineers, environmental advisors and project managers as well as the business support staff, and sits on the West Cumbria Mining Board.

Major Shareholder and Investor

In 2014, West Cumbria Mining secured a staged commitment of  £14.7 million of private equity financing from EMR Capital Resources, which is led by respected industry executives. In 2017, EMR Capital Resources and existing shareholders made a further investment totalling £8 million.
