West Cumbria Mining’s Technical Director, Peter Altounyan (left) and Assistant Mining Engineer, Rohin Shah (right) visited Energy Coast UTC in Workington, Cumbria earlier this week to talk to Year 10/11 students about what it means to be a mining engineer at West Cumbria Mining.

During the visit they engaged with groups of students discussing how they both became mining engineers, what their respective roles involve on a daily basis and the opportunities for mining engineers globally.

Students were keen to understand what qualifications they would need and the grades required to become a mining engineer along with more general questions around health and safety and mining practice.
