WCM News Update – July 2023

Project Progress

WCM is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas Hall to the new position of General Counsel.  Doug, originally from Edinburgh, has over 30 years’ UK and international legal experience – much of it involving mining projects. Throughout his career, Doug has held senior positions in major international law firms and in-house.

WCM can also confirm the re-appointment of Simon Zanker to the team, taking up his role of Chief Operating Officer.  Simon brings with him a wealth of experience within the mining industry and extensive knowledge of the project.  Simon has worked in numerous underground coalfields, as well as formerly being a mine manager in a number of former UK collieries.

These two key senior team appointments will compliment the existing team in progressing the various pre-construction activities required to reach the commencement of site construction activities.

Legal Challenge Process

On 18th May 2023, WCM was advised by the Royal Courts of Justice that the permission hearing scheduled for 24th May had been adjourned, with a ‘rolled up’ hearing of the permission and substantive grounds to be heard over three days later in the year.

The dates for this hearing have now been set for 24th to 26th October 2023, in the High Court in London.
